What you should know about Christies Beach Surf Life Saving Club Inc

Club in Onkaparinga, Beaches in Onkaparinga

In the same year the Christie Beach Surf Lifesaving Club came into existence. Christie Beach Surf lifesaving Club has a strong competitive history and is recognized throughout Australia for its performances in board, ski and boat events. On the local scene the Club has built up a mighty relationship as a huge host and supporter of surf carnivals and major events. The History Preservation Project is a collection of photos, documents and memorabilia from the beginning days of Christie Beach SLSC up to the give day.

The club’s training schedule can be found over at the Training Times page. Areas of competition throughout the club can be found below the competitions tab which is under Lifesaving in the overhead menu. Christie Beach SLSC provides training in all its areas of competition. Belt Race the Surf Belt race involves the use of the surf reel, line and belt and is one of the maximum prestigious and traditional races in surf lifesaving competition. The event begins on the beach with the swimmer placing the belt around their waist and towing a surf line out to their allocated buoy and signaling their finish. As the rescue tube swimmer and tolerant approach the shore the two rescuers enter the water to assist in getting the tolerant across the finish line. The tolerant swims out to the buoy, signals the rescue tube swimmer who then swims out (with the assistance of fins), collects the tolerant and swim them back to the complete line on the beach. When the race commences the competitors must run up the beach to gather their rescue tube, turn and race to the water and swim to their allocated buoy to signal their finish of the race. Once the competitors complete the swim leg they must then run around the alike flag as the start of the race and sprint to the finish. Surf, runswimrun and the wading races are direct tests of physical aptitude in and around the surf environment, whereas the Belt, Rescue Tube Rescue and the Rescue Tube races are simulated races. At Christie Beach, we combine our routine Board and Ski training sessions with our ocean swimming as a piece of our weekly training program. The Taplin Relay event may be conducted in three people (one swimmer, one surf board and one surf ski paddler), six people (two competitors for each water leg), or four people (one competitor per water leg plus a beach sprinter to whole the race) variations. IRA (Inflatable Rescue Boat) competition aims to improve the skills and technique of IRA drivers and crew as healthy as permit crews to demonstrate their techniques and abilities to perform rescues. There are five events in IRA competition: Teams are comprised of one patient, one driver, and one crew member. Behind the IRA has rounded the turning buoy, the crew member with the rescue tube held in a secure grip, enters the water and swims previous the turning buoy to their patients. The IRA is relaunched and the crew proceeds to rescue the second tolerant and return them to shore, on to the beach and across the finish line. March Former is one of Surf Life Saving’s original events and represents the traditional discipline of a surf lifesaver. The rescuer donning the safety belt with the line attached and swimming out to sea to compile the patient, while other members of the team use the reel and line to pull the swimmer and patient in. Since the inception of surf lifesaving, competition among st surf club members and surf clubs was inevitable and the RR event was developed. Champion Lifesaver this event provides an individual the competitive opportunity to demonstrate their physical and mental skills needed to be a surf lifesaver. Patrol Competition the aim of the patrol competition is to demonstrate how surf lifesavers labor as a team in performing some or all skills associated with surf rescue patrol work. Team members in the patrol competition must be from the same club. Surf Life Saving SA says it superior when it says Nippers is Pensive Fun.
